TarnoTek was established in 2001, managed by Dr. Giora Tarnopolsky. TarnoTek is a consultant to major VC, data storage, investment, and intellectual property firms and was data storage systems consultant to INSIC - the Information Storage Industry Consortium .

Prior to founding TarnoTek, Dr. Tarnopolsky was Executive Director of the Advanced Recording Technology Laboratory at Seagate Technology LLC.
At Seagate, Giora also served as Executive Director, Research West. He has led technology development and technology transfer efforts that resulted in accelerated time-to-market processes. He also initiated and sustained partnerships with Japanese and American companies.



Giora also served as Vice President/Technology at Xyratex International, where he managed the development of IP assets as well as new hardware development. Giora is an advisor to major venture capital firms, investment firms, and to litigants in major patent and trade secret cases, and on intellectual property matters involving data storage systems. He has been a technical and strategy consultant, as well as a deposed expert witness and an ITC expert witness. His testimony has been supported by thorough technical declarations to the courts.

Giora was Co-Publications Chair of the 24th Magnetic Recording Conference TMRC 2013, held at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan, August 2013. 
Giora was also Co-Publications Chair of the 23th Magnetic Recording Conference TMRC 2012, held in San Jose, CA, August 2012.  Giora was Co-Editor-in-Chief of the 2005 InterMag Conference, Nagoya, Japan. He has been Editor of the 2004 InterMag Conference, Anaheim, California, USA. He lectures frequently on data storage technology, and led the Data Storage Devices and Systems Workshop at the University of California San Diego in April 2004. He was the keynote speaker at the April 2004 Mass Storage Systems and Technology - MSST 2004 - the NASA-Goddard/IEEE Computer Society conference held in College Park, Maryland. He also was the keynote speaker at the 23rd 2003 Interactive Workshop on Data Storage, Lake Arrowhead, California.

Giora's experience encompasses work at world-class industrial and R&D enterprises in the USA and Europe. He was a scientist and research manager at Hewlett-Packard Labs. He also did experimental and theoretical work at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, Stanford University, and at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, Geneva, Switzerland.

Dr. Tarnopolsky has published numerous papers and patents on magnetic recording technology and on high-energy physics in peer-reviewed technical journals.

He was Contributing Editor to Magnetics Business & Technology
Past Chairman, IEEE Magnetics Society Chapter, Santa Clara Valley. Past Program Chairman and Publications Chairman of the Magnetic Recording Conferences on recording heads, magnetic media, and recording systems.
